SCAT History

SCAT History at a Glance

The Saline County Area Transit transportation system is one of the oldest transportation systems in Nebraska. It was founded on May 7th, 1974 over 30 years ago. SCAT, as it has come to be known, was organized at the home of Helen Storms in Western, Nebraska.
Saline County Area Transit is an offshoot of the former Blue Valley Transportation System, which was the first of its kind in Nebraska. At the 10th anniversary celebration in 1984, the name was changed from theSenior Handibus to Saline County Area Transit.
"We move people" says Scott Bartels, manager, "we take them to doctor's appointments, to hospitals to have lab checks, and we take them shopping to the big malls and little knick-knack stores where they can find the things they need. We do special things like assisting with packages and luggage, or simply helping them get into our vehicles - we provide these services to young and old, healthy and weak, disabled or disadvantaged, teenaged to spry 90-year-old youngsters."
SCAT enjoys getting involved, not only with their work, but with people from our communities and our county. More information about SCAT routes, reservations or assistance can be obtained from SCAT at 402-433-4511.
